The 5-day Sirimon Trek offers a challenging and rewarding adventure to summit one of Africa’s highest peaks. The itinerary includes:

Climbing Highlights:

  • Ascent via Sirimon Route: Climb through lush forests, alpine meadows, and rocky terrain.
  • Summit Attempt: Reach the summit of Point Lenana (4,985 meters) for breathtaking views.
  • Scenic Descents: Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape during your descent.

Itinerary

Five Days Sirimon Trek

Day 1: Sirimon Gate to Jud Maier’s Camp

  • Morning: Gather and organize equipment for the trek.
  • Afternoon: Drive to Sirimon Gate. Enjoy a leisurely 3-hour walk through the equatorial forest to Jud Maier’s Camp (3,300 meters) for overnight in high-altitude tents.

Day 2: Jud Maier’s Camp to Likii North Valley

  • Morning: Ascend the Sirimon Track to Likii North Valley.
  • Afternoon: Camp overnight in this beautiful valley below the subsidiary peaks of Teleki and Sendeyo.
  • Overnight: Likii North Camp (3,990 meters) – Full board.

Day 3: Likii North Valley to Mackinders Valley

  • Morning: Climb out of the North Valley and into Mackinders Valley.
  • Afternoon: Camp at the head of Mackinders Valley, just below the main peaks of Batian and Nelion (4,300 meters).
  • Overnight: Mackinders Valley – Full board.

Day 4: Mackinders Valley to Teleki Valley

  • Morning: Make an alpine ascent to the highest peak, Point Lenana (4,985 meters).
  • Afternoon: Descend to Teleki Valley on the opposite side of the main peaks and return to Mackinders Camp for a restful night.
  • Overnight: Mackinders Camp – Full board.

Day 5: Mackinders Camp to Nairobi

  • Morning: Descend to the Met Station (road head) on the Naro Moru Track.
  • Afternoon: Drive back to Nairobi.

Essential Trekking Gear

  • Waterproof rucksack with day pack
  • Sleeping bag (rated for at least 3 seasons)
  • Roll mats and insulation pads
  • Comfortable hiking boots, light walking shoes, and sandals
  • Gaiters (useful in snowy conditions)
  • Wooden walking stick or ski pole
  • Sunglasses or snow goggles, sun hat, balaclava or woolen hat
  • Warm scarf, gloves, mittens, and thermal underwear
  • Sweaters, anorak or raincoat, waterproof pants, jackets, t-shirts, and multiple pairs of socks  
  • Long-sleeved shirt with collar, small towel, toiletries, and toilet paper
  • Sunscreen and lip salve
  • First aid kit and insect repellent
  • Flashlight (head-mounted preferable) with spare batteries  
  • Water bottle
  • Whistle and plastic bags
